Thanks for pointing this out – this was a mistake in the article and we’ve rectified all mentions to now refer to the correct winner: the DT770s.

DT990s are sort of the open-back equivalent of the DT770s; we think the DT770s are the better suit for gamers (and prefer the immersive closed quality of open back phones for listening to music too). But if for whatever reason, you’re more interested in open-back, we’d pick the Sennheiser HD 599s over the DT990s anyway.

Hey guys, great article and I really appreciate the information. My cat just chewed through my gaming headset cord, and now I’m here.

One question about your article though. You pick the DT770’s as your top closed back picks, but in the next couple sections, you refer to the 990’s, and in a couple places name those as your top pick. Just looking for some clarification before I pull the trigger on the 770’s.
